From Peabo to Solo
Getting to know Sisaundra Lewis through this interview was quite fascinating for me as well as inspiring. She is passionate, dedicated, loving, spiritual, beautiful and of course, talented. I could go on and on about her! But how do I know this? As I interviewed Sisaundra, these character traits emulated in her voice and through her spirit as I listened to her answer each question with great thought and truth from within. Just as her father was a Bishop ministering to people, Sisaundra ministers to each of us through her God given talent – her voice. Perhaps you will find something within this interview that inspires you just as I did.
OM: I read in your bio that you began your career as a background vocalist for Peabo Bryson. How has your singing changed from those days until now?
SISAUNDRA LEWIS: From Peabo days until now I’ve been able to experience a lot of genres of music so I went from R&B to pop with Celine Dion to a decade of Cirque du Soleil, which is theater. It’s just a culmination of so many different genres at this point.
OM: What is something that you’ve learned about yourself through your professional singing journey?
SISAUNDRA LEWIS: That I am not in control; that I am being led by this incredible gift that I was blessed with and I no longer try to control where I go with it; what I do with it. I see that it has a life of its own that it wants to always be in a situation where it’s inspiring people and I love where it leads me. Now I just say okay wherever we go; it’s good as long as we let people know that we are singing about love, inspiration and peace. So far so good; I’ve learned to stay out the way.
