Lexi Lewis grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and now resides in the Tampa Bay area. She graduated from Arcadia University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management then went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Computer Information Systems (MSCIS) from the University of Phoenix.
She was reared with the love of music instilled in her. Her father, Lewis Watts, was the lead singer and original member of the Rhythm Makers from Lexington, Virginia. Her father sang/shared stages with Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Louis Armstrong and the like. He also performed at the famous Apollo Theatre winning twice with his band.
Born and raised by both parents in Cleveland, Ohio, Lexi Lewis spent her early years singing in the church choir directed by her father. She vividly remembers watching her father sing and falling in love over and over again with music each time a song was sung. Ever since her earliest days, she was fascinated with music.
In 2009, Lexi vowed to begin writing a book about her father who was born with no arms. She began research for her book and knew she wanted to someday create a movie about his life. Then in July 2011 at the American Black Film Festival, she met Emmy Award winning Director/Producer Charles Williams, Jr. who took an immediate interest in her story and suggested she start with a documentary. Lexi has begun filming for the upcoming documentary about her father titled “Beyond the Box.”
