I had a chance to catch up with Kool of Kool & The Gang for a quick interview:

Lexi: Kool, you’ve been in the music business for a very long time creating memorable and unforgettable classics such as ‘Celebration’ and ‘Cherish.’ Talk to me about some of the key components that have made Kool & The Gang so successful.
Kool: Well we started back in 1964 as the Jazziacs then the name was changed to the Soul Town Band, Kool & The Flames then Kool &The Gang. We came out with our very first record in 1969 that became a Top 40 Hit. Through the 70’s we came out with territorial hits like ‘Funky Granny,’ ‘Good Times’ and some of the other songs we did before we came out with ‘Funky Stuff,’ ‘Hollywood Swinging’ and ‘Jungle Boogie.’ Of course those records were big records for us in the 70’s then we went on to add a lead singer in 1979 by the name of James “JT” Taylor.  With him we had the hits of ‘Celebration,’ ‘Joanna’ and ‘Get Down on It’ and ‘Fresh’ and ‘Cherish.’ So, I think our fan base has been there but our career has been up and down of course but each ten years we’ve been able to pull it out. God has blessed us to continue up until today.
