I had the great honor of interviewing the great blues guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd. He’s got some exciting things going on in the studio right now, and I’m sure you’ll be pleased when his next record is released! You can see him and his band performing at the Clearwater Sea-Blues Festival on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Coachman Park in Clearwater, FL. For more information visit www.clearwaterseablues.com. With that said, let’s get right to the interview!
DTB: Your parents bought you your first electric guitar at age seven for Christmas. Describe your feelings when you received that present.
Kenny: It’s hard to go back to that very moment, but I remember when I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn for the first time, which was six months prior to Christmas, all I wanted was to get my hands on a real guitar. But, before that, I had all kinds of toy guitars that I’d been playing that were little plastic acoustic guitars. I’d been running around the house for years up to that point playing those little things, but I’m sure I was absolutely ecstatic over it because I’d been begging for a guitar for six months.
